A press kit (also known as a media kit) is a visual presentation used to provide key information about who you are, your company, accomplishments, and any newsworthy material.
It is important to have a press kit for your business, especially when you’re trying to get media coverage for your business. Press kits make it easy for journalists to learn more about your company and access the photos and information needed to publish your work.
A press kit can be presented in various ways. You may develop your press kit as a pdf file, dropbox, slideshow, or even webpage. For in-person events, you may also generate a well-design booklet to pass out to guests.
Your press kit should include the following information:
Biography
Your biography should tell people about yourself, your expertise, background and experience in your field.
Brand Story
Your brand story is the “why” for starting your business and how it came to be. Your brand story is vital for developing a personal connection with audiences and consumers.
Company Fact Sheet
Your company fact sheet should include details about your company, who you serve, as well as details about your products and/or services.
Brand Visuals
It is important to have high quality headshots (at least 3 different variations), lifestyle visuals (you, employees, and/or models interacting with your products/services), e-commerce product images, and logos.
Press Mentions
Always include past features of you and/or your business in relevant news or media.
Pro Tip: Organize a Dropbox folder to house your high resolution images, personal biography, and company fact sheet to make it easier for press to get all information needed. Make sure to label each document appropriately.
